Surprising new team at the top of the CDL
It’s best to expect the unexpected after half the CDL makes a roster move. FaZe, Thieves and OpTic all fall in a single weekend and somehow the Heretics are the new SupeR Team.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEKEND
SupeR-Man Has Arrived
Coming into the Major 3 Qualifiers, Miami was barely hanging onto a Champs spot. They were just 4-10 in Stage 1 and 2 qualifying matches and failed to pick up any points in either Minor. Their lone saving grace has been a Cinderella run to the top 3 at their home Major in Spain. Miami needed a change. They needed someone… SupeR.
Miami opened the weekend against longtime nemesis OpTic Texas. There is no love lost between these two franchises, and Miami has had OpTic’s number all season. This match was no exception as the Heretics picked up the 3-1 win to improve their season record to 3-0 against H3CZ’s squad. The longtime Challengers duo of SupeR and RenKoR ran wild, posting a combined 183-149 (1.23), including a combined 24 kills in the Search.
Miami’s weekend wasn’t done after that; they still had a matchup with Faze looming. After dropping the first map, RenKoR and MettalZ kick-started a quick comeback with a 2v2 clutch in Round 11 to even the series. After winning the Control, the Heretics relied on 1:53 in the hill from ReeaL and some late-game heroics in the form of a 6-kill streak by SupeR to close out the series. They are now 3-0 in Major 3 qualifying and have found themselves with a 25-point cushion over the 9th placed Cloud9. Not to mention they are the last remaining undefeated team in the Major 3 Qualifiers.

The Tissue is an Issue
Scrap and Envoy chose to leave this guy? CleanX was in MVP form against Thieves, finishing with 121 kills (1.12 K/D) to lead Ultra to a 3-2 series victory. Skyline Hardpoint continues to be a scary map to play Ultra on and teams should be looking to veto it. Beans helped close out the series for Ultra once again with a 1.31 Map 4 and 11/4 performance Map 5 while showcasing how impactful an RC Car can be on Dealership, picking up a huge two piece with the teams tied 3-3. Ultra clutched up in three of the next four rounds to take the map 6-4 and earned their second straight victory over LAT. Super Team who?
The forfeit against Breach being Ultra’s only loss in a split where they’ve already played FaZe and Thieves shows that their 3rd place finish at Major 2 wasn’t a fluke. CleanX is the only player to win an event in every CDL season and he doesn’t want that streak to end this year. Ultra takes on the Heretics next weekend in a matchup between two of the hottest teams in the CDL. Which EU team will reign supreme entering Major 3?

Pred’s Revenge
Dropped under mysterious circumstances. Returned to the lineup. Dropped again. Pred’s Black Ops 6 season can only be described as tumultuous, but he has found a new home with the Vegas Falcons. And for the first time since MW2 Champs, he found himself facing OpTic. In the Map 1 Vault OpTic took an early lead, but after Falcons were able to tie up the game at 160 apiece, the wheels came off for the boys in green. From there, Vegas outscored them 90-25 to close out their third consecutive Hardpoint win. The Map 2 went the distance, but OpTic clutched up in Round 11, aided by an early bomb plant. After a 3-2 Control victory, the Falcons found themselves with just their second series point in twenty-one series. This time they converted. Falcons took a sledgehammer to the Green Wall in Map 4, a resounding 250-112 victory for the first series victory in their CDL history. The relief was apparent in the celebration, which rivaled that of some Champs victories, while OpTic sat stunned as their embarrassing season reached a low that some considered unimaginable. Maybe Pred wasn’t the problem.

Champs Race Moving in Slow-Mo
The five-team race from 6th to 10th is getting clearer each week as points are coming at a premium for the teams at the bottom. Currently in a three-team tie for 6th, Miami’s performance this weekend securing Winners’ Bracket puts them into a comfortable spot moving forward. Breach also finds themselves in position for a good seed, sitting at 2-1 with matches against Cloud9 and Falcons to close out Stage 3.
It starts to get interesting after that. OpTic’s 25-point cushion over 9th could be erased rapidly with another poor placing at Major 3, and their 0-2 weekend adds pressure for their final match vs. FaZe; a loss and some bad luck could put them into Losers’ Bracket again. Superstar, where are you?
Cloud9 pulled off an important reverse sweep over Rokkr to keep their Champs hopes alive, but it’s looking very likely that both teams will be starting in Losers’ Bracket for Major 3. Cloud9 faces Breach and Surge to close out their split, and with a 1-2 record to go along with a 3-8 map count, they will likely need a win in both series. Rokkr at 1-3 will need a win and some luck to avoid what’s looking like the inevitable right now after losing two more Map 5’s this weekend. From the Champs race to a Champs watch party, time’s running out.

TOP PERFORMERS
Neptune: This one shouldn’t come as a surprise. Neptune has flourished since getting picked up by the Surge and this weekend was no different. He led both matches in kills, going 67/56 (1.2) vs. LAGM8 and 94/87 (1.08) vs. Ravens, helping Vancouver secure two more wins. In Map 5, Neptune matched the entire Ravens team in kills, going 12/5 with 4 first bloods to complete the reverse sweep.
CleanX: Nothing like a CleanX takeover series, and he had one while going head-to-head with HyDra and the Thieves. His Map 4 40-bomb to push the series to a Map 5 was the highlight of his 121/108 (1.12) performance. After going negative in his previous three series, CleanX finally went positive, and Ultra needed all of it. Surprisingly, his only negative map was in Map 5, where he finished 6/7. LAT’s Vault Control spawn trap couldn’t even slow CleanX down.
Arcitys: While Exnid’s first series win and Pred’s revenge were the big stories of the Falcons weekend, Arcitys was undoubtedly the MVP for the team. The two-time World Champion turned back the clock, pacing the entire lobby with 94 kills. He was especially deadly in the Search, dropping 11 kills with two first bloods. If the Falcons look to make any noise, a rock-solid main AR is a must.
HyDra: The French Phenom was in peak form this weekend. HyDra started out his weekend hot in his first series vs. Cloud9, where he was tied for most kills and least deaths, going 67/51 (1.31) in a swift 3-0. Thieves fell in their next match to Ultra, but not because of HyDra, who once again tied the lobby for least deaths while only being outpaced by CleanX in the kills department, going 108/93 (1.16). The only thing slowing down HyDra are Ghosty’s team nades.
SupeR: The rookie call-up has been as advertised. SupeR dropped a combined 173 kills and a 1.20 on the weekend across eight maps against OpTic and FaZe. In Map 2 against OpTic, he had more kills than the rest of his team combined, piecing them for a record-tying 16 kills in 10 rounds. The Heretics weekend ended with an exclamation point from SupeR, who closed out the Map 4 on a 15/4 run, including a 6-kill streak to lock down Red Card P3 to help put the series to bed.
